At 8 a.m., Maggie, a rescued dog, lies on the cold floor outside her parents’ bedroom, wide awake. She’s already had a tasty breakfast and spent some time outside with her dad before he headed off to work. Maggie could easily take a nap now, but she stays alert, waiting for the two words she loves to hear most from the other side of the door.
The sound of the sheets moving catches her attention. Maggie peeks through the door, thinking her mom is awake, but she’s not sure. So, she waits for a sign.
Maggie became part of her family in July 2023, after being rescued as a puppy. She had been abandoned in the woods with her mom and siblings. Lost and alone, Maggie fell into a ditch until a kind stranger found her family. Sadly, they couldn’t find Maggie, but soon after, another person discovered her and posted about her online. That’s when Hannah Baker and her partner saw Maggie’s picture.

Maggie fit into her new home instantly, as if she had always been there. She quickly became a part of the daily routine, with family walks being a must for her. Maggie insisted that if anyone tried to walk her without the other person, she would refuse, doing somersaults to avoid going back inside.
One of Maggie’s “rules” was to wait outside her parents’ bedroom in the morning until she got permission to enter. Although the door was unlocked, she wouldn’t go in until she heard her mom say the magic words.
“One morning, I woke up and saw her waiting at the door. I said, ‘Good morning,’ and she jumped right on the bed. Ever since, she’s done it every day,” said Hannah. Maggie had figured it out on her own.
Now, every morning, Maggie waits by the door, eager to hear her favorite phrase. And when her mom greets her, it’s a moment of pure joy for both of them.
“Seeing her there when I wake up always makes me smile and brightens my day,” Hannah shared.
After the morning cuddles, Maggie’s ready for whatever adventure comes next—whether it’s a walk or visiting the neighbors, who lovingly call her their “big adopted dog.” Maggie’s days are filled with joy.
