In Houston, Texas, a sharp-eyed Good Samaritan recently spotted something unusual in the murky waters of a flooded bayou — a trembling puppy, barely visible, clinging to a patch of reeds as the current rushed around him. Soaked and scared, the tiny dog was fighting to stay above water.
Without hesitation, the passerby waded through the water and scooped the pup to safety. The little survivor, later named Eddy, was cold, frightened, and in desperate need of help.
Thankfully, Eddy’s journey led him to the compassionate team at CAMO Rescue. When he first arrived, the trauma of his experience was still fresh. He was defensive and fearful — unsure of who to trust. But with time, patience, and care, Eddy began to relax.
“He was really scared at first and would snap out of fear,” said Holly Dool, CAMO Rescue’s founder and president. “But after some time to decompress, he’s calmed down a lot.”
The rescue team was amazed he had survived such a terrifying ordeal.
“We all felt heartbroken for him,” Dool shared. “We couldn’t help but wonder — was he abandoned, or just lost?”
Eddy didn’t take long to adapt to life in a warm, loving foster home. Day by day, his personality began to shine through. His caregivers were delighted to discover his playful and affectionate side.
“He absolutely loves zooming around the yard,” Dool said with a smile. “And he’s fantastic with kids.”
Now healthy and happy, Eddy is ready for the next chapter — a forever home. He’s crate-trained, enjoys outdoor adventures, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. CAMO Rescue believes he’ll thrive in a home with patient, dog-savvy adopters who can continue helping him build trust.
“Eddy is a total sweetheart once he bonds with you,” Dool said. “He loves to be near his people.”
