Lufy’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. Born in South Korea, he was sold by an unethical breeder who intentionally bred him to be much smaller than normal. By the time he was just four months old, serious health issues began to surface. Lufy struggled with breathing difficulties and a curved spine, which eventually left his back legs paralyzed.
When his health began to decline, his original family—who had since moved to the United Arab Emirates—found themselves unable to care for him and made the difficult decision to surrender him. That’s when Sahara Kennel Rescue, a UAE-based organization, stepped in.
“We’ve worked with paralyzed animals before,” said Xyza, the rescue’s manager. “So when Lufy came to us, we knew we could help. We had a lightweight custom wheelchair made just for him so he wouldn’t be burdened by his condition.”
From the moment he arrived at the rescue, it became clear that Lufy wasn’t going to let his challenges define him. Despite everything he’d been through, he radiated pure joy.
“Lufy is a happy little soul,” Xyza said. “He’s never bitter, never down—just full of life. People are immediately drawn to him. He could easily be grumpy after all he’s endured, but he’s the complete opposite. He brings happiness to everyone around him.”
Thanks to his wheelchair and the loving care of the rescue team, Lufy regained his mobility and his confidence blossomed. But there was still one thing missing in his life—a permanent, loving home.
Earlier this week, Sahara Kennel Rescue shared Lufy’s adoption story online, hoping to find that special someone. What happened next was nothing short of incredible. Within days, the post went viral, racking up over a million likes and shares from people around the globe.
“We knew he was special,” Xyza said. “But the outpouring of love from all corners of the world has been beyond anything we imagined. It’s been so touching to see people embrace Lufy exactly as he is—with all his quirks and challenges.”
While Lufy’s medical issues are likely lifelong, that hasn’t stopped kind-hearted individuals from offering to adopt him and provide the love and care he deserves.
“We’re feeling really hopeful,” said Xyza. “We’ve received a number of thoughtful, compassionate adoption applications. We’ve been working closely with potential families to explain Lufy’s needs, and the response has been incredibly positive. We’re confident he’s going to find the perfect match.”
