Cute dog appears in every street view photo after following the maps photographer

He began to trail the Google Maps photographer in South Korea and wound up featuring in thousands of street view images.

The navigation world underwent a significant transformation with the advent of street view technology, providing users with immersive, panoramic views of global locations. This technology offers a virtual exploration experience, allowing individuals to preview routes and landmarks before embarking on their travels. It serves as a valuable visual aid, offering a glimpse of what roads and places will look like, thereby helping to prevent getting lost. While Google Maps has been a pioneer in this technology, it appears to lack one charming element: a cute guide dog.

Unlike Google Maps, Daum, a web portal owned by Kakao in South Korea, features a cute guide dog in its street view images, as reported by The Verge. This addition enhances the navigational experience. Street view data relies on human photographers capturing images of various locations to build the database. The dog seen in the images happily accompanied the photographer working for Daum, inadvertently being photographed for many street view locations.

Commenters shared more details about the dog. u/easthernam revealed, “This cute pupper’s name is actually Maru, and he is the unofficial guide dog of Jook Island/Jook Do (a small island in Korea), where he has lived for 7 years. Maru is known for being super friendly to tourists and locals. There is another doggo named Mingki on another island who also guides tourists!” u/Aerron added, “The dog kept chasing that white boomerang.”
