Abandoned and in Pain, She Slept on Garbage Hoping for a Kind Soul

Earlier this month, Arturo Flores, a dedicated volunteer with Logan’s Legacy 29, received a call that immediately tugged at his heart. On the other end of the line was a concerned local who had come across a black-and-white dog lying motionless in a patch of overgrown bushes. The dog’s soft, pained whimpers echoed through the area, but she wouldn’t move.

Without hesitation, Flores rushed to the location. What he found was exactly as described — a helpless dog curled up among trash and leaves, too injured to lift herself but still crying out, hoping someone would come.

“She had been there for days, suffering in silence,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29. “No one stopped to help her — until now.”

Flores knew he couldn’t leave her behind. He gently lifted the injured pup, who would later be named Tillie, and carefully placed her in his car. From there, he took her straight to Camino Pet Hospital, where a veterinary team sprang into action.

An exam soon revealed the heartbreaking cause of Tillie’s pain: a fractured pelvis. The injury explained her inability to walk or even stand. The thought of her enduring such agony alone was gut-wrenching — but finally, she was in good hands.

“She just needs rest, gentle care, and a whole lot of love,” Hall shared in a Facebook update.

While Tillie still has a long journey ahead, her rescuers are hopeful. She’s been started on pain management and is receiving round-the-clock affection from her veterinary team. As the staff continues to monitor her healing, they’re also assessing whether surgery will be necessary to fully repair her injuries.

Despite the hardship, Tillie’s spirit is already beginning to shine through. “You can see the gratitude in her eyes,” Hall wrote. “She knows she’s finally safe.”

In the meantime, efforts are underway to find Tillie a medical foster who can support her recovery. With her gentle soul and resilient heart, her rescuers are confident she’ll find the perfect match — someone who will see her not as broken, but as brave.

And as she continues to heal, one thing is certain: Tillie will never be left behind again. Her days of suffering in silence are over — from here on out, it’s nothing but love and care.
