Last week, something surprising happened in New York City. A kind person walking through Midtown Manhattan noticed a stroller sitting alone on the sidewalk. Inside wasn’t a baby—but a fluffy cat.

Worried, the person called Animal Haven, a local animal rescue group. A staff member who was nearby rushed over. When they got there, their heart broke. There was a note attached to the stroller.
The note said:
“Please find a home for Pumpkin, she is a good cat. She warms up to other cats in two weeks. I’m recently homeless, I can’t take care … I’m sorry.”

No one was around to explain why the cat was left there. But the note made it clear—Pumpkin’s owner had lost their home and didn’t know what else to do.
At first, the Good Samaritan tried calling more than 10 animal shelters. Sadly, they were all full. Animal Haven was full too, but they couldn’t leave Pumpkin alone in the middle of a busy city street.

So, the staff member gently took the stroller and brought Pumpkin back to the shelter. They set up a cozy space for her to rest. Even though she was nervous, Pumpkin was sweet and clearly had been loved.
“It’s clear Pumpkin was someone’s pet,” Animal Haven shared. “We feel sad for her—and for her owner, who must have made a very hard decision.”

Now, a week later, Pumpkin is starting to settle in. She’s still a little confused, but she’s kind and gentle. And the best news? She’s ready to be adopted—and people are already showing interest!
The team at Animal Haven is giving her lots of love while she waits for her forever home.
For now, Pumpkin is safe—and they hope she’ll soon be in the arms of someone new who will love her just as much.
