Zelensky’s Outfit Sparks Debate During White House Visit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House on Friday to sign an agreement on rare minerals. However, his meeting with then-U.S. President Donald Trump took an unexpected turn in front of the global media.
Before their heated exchange, a reporter questioned Zelensky about his choice of attire. Dressed in his usual military-style outfit, he was asked, “Why aren’t you wearing a suit? Do you even own one?” This remark drew laughter from Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials in the room.
Without hesitation, Zelensky fired back, “Do you have a problem?” The reporter responded, saying many Americans felt that not wearing a suit in the Oval Office was disrespectful.
Zelensky then explained that he would only wear a suit after the war between Ukraine and Russia ended. “I will wear a suit after this war is over—maybe something like yours, maybe something better, maybe something cheaper. We’ll see,” he replied with a smile.
Trump also chimed in, saying he liked Zelensky’s outfit.
This wasn’t the first time Zelensky had worn his signature attire to major events. He had previously worn similar outfits while meeting world leaders and even during his speech at the UN General Assembly in 2023.
