Toby, a tiny Yorkshire Terrier with an enormous heart, was born facing challenges that would have overwhelmed most. Diagnosed with hydrocephalus—fluid on the brain—his head is larger than normal, making it difficult for him to move like other dogs. His back legs don’t function properly, and he also has dental issues. Yet, despite it all, Toby is a happy and playful pup who radiates joy.
His story took a turn for the better when he was rescued by Kit, the compassionate founder of Florida Yorkie Rescue. Toby’s original owner had planned to put him down at just five weeks old, believing his condition made his life unlivable. But Kit saw things differently—she believed every life is precious and refused to let Toby’s story end before it had truly begun.
“I don’t wish him to be anything different than what he is,” Kit says. “He’s perfect the way he was born.”
Florida Yorkie Rescue specializes in helping Yorkies with special needs find loving homes, and Toby’s case was especially unique. As the accidental offspring of a very small mother, he was fragile and weighed only 16 ounces when Kit took him in.
