Retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt recently spoke with CNN’s Anderson Cooper about the U.S. military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. He said he was very impressed by how the operation was carried out and praised former President Donald Trump for using what he called “deception and trickery” to get the job done.
“I’m really amazed, to be honest,” Kimmitt said. “I didn’t fully understand the two-week delay before the strikes. I wasn’t sure what we were waiting for or what kind of deal was left to make with Iran. But in the end, it felt like a typical Trump move—like trying to buy an apartment that’s suddenly been knocked down. There’s nothing left to negotiate. The surprise and planning worked well and probably helped avoid American casualties.”

President Trump announced on Saturday that the U.S. had bombed three Iranian nuclear sites. During a brief speech at the White House, he said the sites had been completely destroyed.
When Cooper asked Kimmitt about the possible consequences of the attack, Kimmitt warned that the situation is still dangerous.
“They should definitely be cautious,” he said about U.S. forces in the region. “Iran might be hurt, but they’re not defeated. Their proxy groups—especially in Iraq—still have the power to do serious harm. They can attack American troops, buildings, and interests.”
Kimmitt, who once served as Assistant Secretary of State for political-military affairs under President George W. Bush, said Iran’s allies in the region still pose a real threat.
Trump, in his address, explained more about the targets. “Not long ago, our military launched major precision strikes on three important Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan,” he said. “These places have been at the heart of Iran’s nuclear plans for years. Our goal was to destroy Iran’s ability to make nuclear weapons and stop the threat from what we believe is the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world. I’m proud to say the mission was a huge success.”
Trump ended by saying that Iran is now under pressure and must choose peace.
