His True Identity Left His Rescuers in Awe

Two years ago, rescuers from Mission Paws’ible stumbled upon a heartbreaking sight in the streets of Uluwatu, Bali — a stray dog barely holding on. His body was frail and hairless, his skin raw with scabs, and he looked utterly defeated.

“It was heartbreaking to see him like that,” said Prue Barber, founder of Mission Paws’ible. “He was so thin and sick, it was hard to believe he was still alive.”

Barber knew the pup needed urgent help, but gaining his trust would be a challenge. He was scared of people and kept his distance. Still, she refused to give up. Day after day, she returned to the same spot, offering him food and gentle encouragement. Slowly, he began to let his guard down.

After a week of consistent visits, the dog finally allowed her to pick him up and take him to safety. She named him Buzz, and their journey together officially began.

At the vet, Buzz was started on treatment right away. Though he looked rough on the outside, his recovery didn’t require anything fancy—just proper care, some medication for his skin, and plenty of love.

“He didn’t need much to start healing. Just time, trust, and attention,” the team at Mission Paws’ible shared on their website.

In the beginning, no one could figure out what breed Buzz might be. He was completely bald and so underweight that his features gave little away.

“We had absolutely no clue,” Barber said.

But as the days passed and his condition improved, something beautiful started to happen. Tiny tufts of golden hair began to sprout. And not just any hair — it was long, silky, and unmistakably golden.

Soon, Buzz’s scabs healed, his skin cleared, and a thick, radiant coat grew in. To everyone’s amazement, the once unrecognizable street dog turned out to be a golden retriever.

His transformation wasn’t just physical. With his health restored, Buzz’s personality blossomed. The timid dog Barber met on the streets had become a laid-back, affectionate companion.

“He turned out to be the sweetest, most easygoing guy,” Barber said with a smile.

Buzz stayed with Barber as a foster until the perfect forever home came along — and it wasn’t long before it did. A woman who ran an acrobatics school in Bali met Buzz and instantly fell in love. She adopted him, and just like that, his next chapter began.

These days, Buzz is living his best life at the studio, mingling with clients, lounging in the sun, and occasionally attempting a few acrobatic moves of his own.

It’s hard to believe he was once a sick, scared stray wandering the streets alone. Now, he’s a symbol of hope — proof of what love, patience, and a second chance can do.

“He’s just a pure soul,” Barber said. “He always was — he just needed someone to see it.”
