Josephine, lovingly called “Pheenie,” was left behind when her owner was deported. With nowhere to go, she took shelter behind a shipping container in a junkyard. It offered little protection from the heat and rain, but it was the only place she had.
For nine long years, Pheenie survived on scraps and leftovers from kind townspeople. But as time passed, her health began to decline. She had been hit by a truck, losing her right eye, and suffered from a painful spinal infection, severe dental issues, a urinary tract infection, and multiple tumors.

Hope For Paws volunteers found Pheenie in her lonely hiding spot and knew they had to help. Though weak and weary, she soon realized that someone had finally come to save her. The sadness in her eyes was met with relief as she accepted their kindness.

Due to her medical needs, Pheenie was placed in a loving foster home where she spent the last five months of her life surrounded by care and comfort. On a beautiful farm, she experienced the love and warmth she had been missing for so many years.

Though her early years were filled with hardship, Pheenie’s final days were filled with love. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
